Alban’s 10th Year Anniversary —
Thank You Everyone!

September 2004 marks the Tenth
Anniversary for Alban Home Inspection Service. Ten years of home inspecting. Over 25,000 home and environmental inspections. Over 100 of these newsletters. Outstanding service to Realtors and their clients.
Personally, I have had the opportunity to
perform over 5000 home inspections, teach at least 300 continuing educations classes for Realtors and home inspectors, and had one of my ideas, a standardized form  to respond to the home inspection contingency by giving notice of property condition clause deficiencies and negotiating only none-covered deficiencies, adopted by the GCAAR form committee for all GCAAR members. I am truly flattered about that.
Furthermore, I write a twice-monthly article
entitled Ask Mr. Home Inspector for the Gazette Newspapers, an article in the Frederick County Association of Realtors’ monthly newsletter, a column in this

newsletter and perform as co-host with Donna Evers, Broker, on our weekly, hour long radio program ’Real Estate Today, now broadcasted at 50,000 watts from Baltimore to Richmond, Annapolis to Hagerstown. These past ten years certainly have been productive for me personally and for Alban Home Inspection Service as a company.
I call myself "Your Humble Home
Inspector" at the opening of the radio program each week. It sounds cute, but the support I have receive on all sides these past ten years truly humbles me. I am appreciative and wish to take this opportunity to say to all, "Thank you!" Thanks to Sandy Watkins, Alban’s General Manager, who suggested the idea of starting the home inspection company in the first place. To Terry Toms, our bookkeeper, Gretchen Wright, our scheduling secretary, Melissa Brois, our marketing director, and Mandy and Tina who shuffle paperwork all day, thanks for your outstanding performance. Thanks also to my colleagues, our home inspectors. George Ash, Rudy Rudacil, Robert Montiel, Marty Blackwood, Lee Eyler and Rodney Shull are dedicated to their clients, beyond merely doing work and getting paid. Each strives to give 110% service to his clients and their Realtors. And finally, I want to express a heartfelt THANKS to the Real Estate Professionals and to our clients who show their confidence in the "Alban Way" and who receive from us outstanding inspections, an in-depth education about the home and unsurpassed service. Everyone at Alban pledges to meet your highest expectations every day to the best of our ability.

Carbon Monoxide — Silent Killer

You can’t see, taste or smell carbon monoxide (CO). But that doesn’t mean it isn’t dangerous. Each year, people sicken and even die as a result of inhaling CO, which can be emitted by gas appliances and flues that are improperly installed or maintained.

The risk of carbon monoxide poisoning increases during sleep, when the victim is unable to recognize the earliest symptoms.

It can cause:

• Headaches • Nausea

• Vomiting • Fatigue

• Giddiness • Chest pains

• Breathlessness • Vision problems

• Stomach pains • Erratic behavior

If these symptoms occur and CO may be involved, immediate medical attention is essential. A blood test a short time after exposure can diagnose the poisoning. But CO leaves the blood quickly, so tests may be inaccurate if too much time passes.
If you are experiencing symptoms of
CO poisoning, get fresh air immediately. Go outside. Or open all doors and windows to ventilate the home. Turn off furnaces, stoves, water heaters and other fuel-burning appliances. Make sure everyone leaves the premises right away.
